When you need childcare, we know how difficult it is for you to decide exactly where to leave your little ones. What is your main concern - will your child be happy? Is the enviroment safe and secure? Is the nursery flexible enough to meet your needs? Are the staff caring and qualified? There will be hundreds of questions you want to ask, and as one of the very best nurseries in Brentwood, we are here to answer those questions and put your mind at rest.

OUR GARDEN

Hopscotch is primarily an outdoor nursery.  We let our children decide where they would like to play and learn and the majority are usually to be found in our amazing garden - even in the winter!

Of course they are suitably dressed in this case as we provide all in one puddle-suits for them to use and keep them warm when they are outside in the colder months.

There has been a lot of research carried out which has identified that children are not spending enough time in the outdoor environment which is why we have decided to make sure that while they are at nursery, they are given the opportunity to be outside as much as they like.

We always have staff on hand to allow the children to choose whether to be outside or inside.  Our garden allows the children to play freely with which ever resources they choose - the climbing frame to develop confidence with grip and climbing skills (and this is not just for the boys!)  They can make different configurations with the planks, climbing frames and ladders, tyres, crates, pallets and cable reels.  They are encouraged to be creative and let their minds imagine things they wouldn't be able to if they were elsewhere.  We empower our children to give it a go and if they fall over or fail at the first attempt, we encourage resilience and get them to try again, and again until they succeed at what it is they were trying to do.

Hopscotch is set in a beautiful location with every room having access to the outdoor environment. The garden is an extension of the classroom which we use all year round weather permitting. We have an all weather safety floor surface and a variety of bikes, trikes, slides, climbing frames, playhouses and sheds available for the children to play in and with. The garden offers a safe environment for all the children to play and is securely fenced with security lighting, which are all checked and regularly risk assessed. The nursery provides puddle suits for the children to use when outside but the children will be encouraged to explore all aspects of the outdoors which sometimes results in them getting muddy!!

NEXT STEPS

Viewing and Settling in New Children

For more information we suggest you and your child come along to visit the nursery and see what we have to offer. We believe that each child is an individual and deserves the best start in life so prior to starting at nursery formally, we suggest your child comes along to visit a few times for settling in sessions. The details of these settles can be discussed at your personal viewing where you will have an opportunity to meet our team of staff and also your child's key worker.

Parental input and key workers

At Hopscotch we believe that as parents you know your child best, and we therefore value your input. In all aspects of your dealings with the nursery you will have the opportunity to speak to your child's key worker, staff and management throughout the day and also by appointment. We also offer parents evenings where you can review your child's records and discuss their progress and specific needs with our staff. We have a good team of staff which are a mix of young and more mature who work well together. With regular staff meetings and training they share experiences and events to ensure continuity of care for your little ones.

Admission Policy

Our admission policy is designed to accommodate all children regardless of age, race, religion, ability or disability. We continue to work with yourselves, your child and any outside agencies such as Pre-school Learning Alliance, Ofsted, and Early Years Development Officers to ensure that each child's needs are met and skills developed throughout their time at the nursery.

Illness and Promoting Good Health

If your child is unwell then we believe the best place for them to be is at home whenever possible. If your child has been ill overnight or the previous day, our policy is that the child should be kept at home for at least 24 hours which will ensure that we can prevent the spread of any infection to other children and staff.
